P Street WWTP Effluent Pump Installation

Project Description

The P Street Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Effluent Pump Station upgrade is part of the Wet Weather Improvements at the City of Fort Smith’s P Street WWTP. This project involved the installation of a second vertical turbine pump with a capacity of 24-million gallons per day (MGD) and modification of the existing pump station structure, thus allowing the WWTP effluent to be pumped directly to the Arkansas River during flood stage conditions. This project is designed to provide a duplex pumping rate up to the plant’s peak biological capacity of 45 MGD. Installation of the second pump allows the Effluent Pump Station to provide redundant pumping capacity for flows up to 24 MGD. Hawkins-Weir Engineers (HW) was also involved in the design of the originally constructed P Street WWTP Effluent Pump Station and adjacent Electrical Building. HW provided project design services, bidding assistance, and construction observation and construction management services during the construction phase.
