Water Treatment Plant Fluoride Improvements

Project Description

In 2011, the 88th General Assembly passed Senate Bill 359 requiring water treatment facilities serving 5,000 persons or more to maintain a level of fluoride in their finished water to prevent tooth decay. Delta Dental of Arkansas provided funding for these improvements through a grant application process. Hawkins-Weir Engineers (HW) prepared the preliminary engineering design and cost estimates, and assisted the City of Greenwood, Arkansas in the grant application. After receiving the grant from Delta Dental, HW prepared plans and specifications for the construction of a new chemical building, bulk chemical storage tank, chemical day tank, secondary chemical containment, a chemical dosing pump, and controls to prevent overdosing fluoride. HW also provided critical phase construction observation services and assistance during startup with the Arkansas Department of Health.
