The original Prospect Pump Station, constructed in the 1970s, had performed well beyond its service life when the Owner selected Hawkins-Weir (HW) for critical design improvements. Only one (1) pump and pump control valve were operating and increased pump capacity was needed to enhance fire protection within the distribution system. This project included the replacement of pumps, motors, pump control valves, isolation gate valves, piping, and electrical and instrumentation equipment. The project also included an expansion to the pump station building to house the new electrical and instrumentation equipment in an HVAC controlled environment, installation of an electrical standby generator and automatic transfer switch, and access and drainage improvements to the site. All of these improvements were accomplished while maintaining operation of the pump station through development of a construction sequence. HW also provided contract administration and inspection services during construction.
