Highway 71 Water District No. 1 observed water around the perimeter of their glass-fused-to-steel 1.0-million gallon (MG) ground storage tank. Hawkins-Weir Engineers assisted the Utility with identifying and quantifying the source of the water leak. It was determined that water was leaking at a rate of approximately 10 gallons per minute (GPM) along the interface of the steel sheets embedded in the tank’s concrete footing. This project included the installation of a geotextile fabric padding on the tank floor and walls, a 40-mil NSF approved PVC liner, liner support ring, and stainless steel J-bolts. Highway 71 Water declared the repair an emergency and procured the liner and installation services. Hawkins-Weir Engineers provided design and critical phase construction observation services for the project.
