Through funding provided by the City of Fort Smith one-cent sales tax devoted to streets and drainage improvements, Hawkins-Weir has annually provided engineering design services for street and drainage projects. The 2013 Capital Improvements project includes rehabilitation and reconstruction of approximately 3,300 feet of Dallas Street, a residential collector street. The existing street is concrete, and sections of the concrete had failed and displaced vertically. The improvements involved replacing failed concrete panels with a full-depth reinforced concrete repair and diamond grinding the entire street section to provide a smoother driving surface resulting in a better ride quality and less road noise.
