HW Projects Win 2019 ACEC Award & Honorable Mentions

City Corporation of Russellville’s solids handling project was awarded the 2019 ACEC Arkansas Engineering Excellence Award in the water/wastewater category. Efficient solids handling is a vital component of all successful wastewater treatment plants, but producing Class A sludge is a step above. City Corporation takes its role in protecting the public health and being good stewards of the environment seriously. Presented with a challenging timeline and limited construction funds, they elected to employ the design-build project delivery method. They selected a team led by local contractor Van Horn Construction that included Hawkins-Weir Engineers, Inc. as the design engineer. The new 17 dry tons/day thermal lime stabilization solids handling process is housed in an 8,000 square foot operations building and includes features to simplify cleaning and solids conveyance.
